yep
times have changed a bit
it's a computer science class
in my day, a bastion of sallow/vampire complexion, black dress socks with sandals, jargon speaking, action figure owning geeks
and today - in my first class (only class right now)
my prof is a black woman from somewhere in the Caribbean (or her parents are) judging from her accent. she's in her mid-30s.
about half the class is women (and most of them good looking, make-up wearing, and well dressed [just to confound another stereotype from my earlier era]). most of them are studying engineering...
times have changed in 20 years
good
i'm looking forward to telling my daughter about my first day

I'm so happy to hear that you were pleasantly surprised by your first class! Good things are coming your way!
Yes times they are a changing Mr. C. . . isn't it nice to see positive steps in our stereotypes. . . . women can be good looking and smart like in the movies.
Ciao
(worried that i sounded sexist...)
just for the record, some 16-18 years ago when i was last in university, women in computer science were stereotypical women geeks
zero make-up (not that make-up is necessary), bad hair, frumpy clothes
and the guys - well, they're just as bad as before... they look like they get a little more sunlight than in the old days
(remember - i've been in computing since 1982 - i lived/worked with all the stereotypes [and owned action figures myself...])
that's hilarous, not sexist, just plain funny...glad you'll have a good learning atmosphere:)
good for you! keep looking after yourself.
on previous posts: i think you're right, stbx wants out, and doesn't want to admit she wants out, so she's making the kids scapegoats-- a real 'look what you're making me do' scenario.
Make sure they know that none of this is their fault--that it really doesn't matter what they do, because she's looking for a reason.
good luck.
